Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
Interesting French election results...it's interesting that the hack didn't seem to change people's minds like it seems to have done in the US. I wonder if this is a sign that people are getting better about being manipulated...
It seems strange to me that COMMUNIST Russia would want all these extreme conservatives in power.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
Not really sure Russia is really a communist state anymore or what it is, it's something that holds elections where one party owns the state media and ensures they'll win by a landslide.
Not just extreme conservatives though, they're nationalists. Desperate to end the EU, Nato and claim they want to put their own country first (whatever that means) meaning less opposition to Russia.
The fall of the EU would be great for Russia, unfortunately for them it only seems effective in English speaking countries where people seem prone to believe that mass rape gangs of ethics are roaming streets and burning down churches thanks to nonsense they see from Murdoch and the Daily Mail.

France has media blackouts to stop talking about politics on the weekend of elections to stop influencing people. The hackers released the information just before hand, meaning people had no idea what the hacks contained.
The only thing you'd get on social media was silly nonsense from right wing nutters, meaning it was all distorted anyway.
To put it into context, imagine if the US had the same system and after the media blackout begun, people started talking about fema camps on twitter. You know not to take it seriously and any legit leaks are lost in the conspiracy nonsense.

The CPS is going to announce tomorrow whether they're pressing charges against the tories. I sincerely hope they do.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
So the Tories broke the law, but it can't proven that they did it intentionally? That's the gist of it.
No charges...

Really? Can't tell if you're being sarcastic.
All the leaders except the only two who could possibly be PM. I'll pass.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
You know it's those party leaders votes that are the reason the Tories have the numbers they do. In contrast to popular believe current polls show Labour around where they were in 2015 which was almost a hung parliament.
It's UKIP votes that are pushing the Tory surge and some from SNP areas in Scotland, because they're pushing the Tories are the only real opposition party against Scottish Independence angle.
Re: The United Kingdom General Election, 2nd May 2024
A very slim glimmer of hope of a second referendum.
Latest poll suggests hung parliament;

If those numbers were accurate, which they probably aren't... it'd mean both the Conservatives and Labour would need the Liberal Democrats to get into power (Labour would require the SNP as well and the Conservatives the DUP).
So in the unlikely event of a progressive alliance, all the Lib Dems need to do is ask for a second referendum on the deal.
That said, some of the experts suggested that if the polls were wrong and the Tory voters acted like it was 2015, then they'd probably get over 100 seat majority (making this a pointless post).
