Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion

The cards have been on the table since the second Weiland walked out the door.
We're probably much closer to one happening then people realize.
my fantasy of seeing Slash and Fortus sharing a stage.
That will never happen. We'll never see a CD era member onstage with a reunited old lineup. There's no reason for it. The moment Axl screams and Slash starts playing Jungle, to paraphrase Amon Goeth in Schindler's List, "the past 12 years become nothing more than a rumor".
except for maybe the drummer
in the case of a reunion, i see axl keeping frank or brain over bringing matt back. but maybe it's wishful thinking.
I would expect Axl to keep at least a couple of "his people" on board; he doesn't want to be on his own dealing with a united front of Slash/Duff/Matt. Izzy doesn't like touring and the band would need a rhythm guitarist; with that in mind, I'd expect Axl to keep Fortus on board (he knows all the GN'R rhythm parts - which is more than Kushner does - he's one of Axl's crowd, and he even looks like Izzy, for heaven's sake). There isn't a hope in hell of Adler coming back, and I dunno if Axl would want to deal with Matt, so there might even be an opening for Frank there (since he's pretty tight with Fortus).
It wouldn't be ideal - I'd far rather see Axl touring with the current band (or, better yet, Buckethead), but if there was a reunion of sorts, I'd be happy enough with a Fortus/Frank/Axl/Slash/Duff/Dizzy line-up (with Izzy turning up for occasional guest appearances and songwriting duties on the album).

Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion
I think we're watching the remains of the old NEW lineup fal apart. Soon all the replacements will have been replaced.
Tommy is the last one left.
Its Just Axl and Tommy now. (Dizzy doesnt count since he is from UYI GNR like Axl).
BH was replaced, Brain was replaced, Tobais was replaced, Robin will be replaced. Its really a joke.

long interview with Tommy at Billboard! This is what separates Tommy form ALL former and current new Gnr members. You don't see any of these guys getting real press like Tommy did on his solo tour and now with the Mats stuff. SPIN magazine is also having a huge article on them in their current issue. Tommy rocks.....and oh yeah, guess who would probably play drums if the Mats did a tour...Josh Freese...who played on alot of Westerbergs solo stuff....6 degrees of separation once again between NIN-GNR-MATS.:nervous:
Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion
ONE LAST THING ON THIS ISSUE-Paul says Tommy is the one who wants the reunion!:ummm: Paul quotes...
Yeah, you know, the Replacements scare me. Tommy came over here [to Westerberg's home in Minneapolis] about a month ago, and we sat down and talked, and that was a scary thing, because, you know, so much has happened, and we've grown. Yet, it was the same goddamn conversation we had before we hired [final drummer] Steve Foley in the bar. So things change, and yet he was pitching me, like, "We should play and do all this," and I'd respond by saying, "Who's gonna play the f*ckin' guitar?" It's been the question from day one, since Bob left the band.
So we left it like that, sort of hanging there, sort of, like, "Well, we'll find that guitar player somewhere." But it's like, "No we won't." He's dead. And the drummer doesn't want to play. To me, if we've ever gonna do this thing, he should come and play drums. But he doesn't want to play drums anymore than a guy wants to get on a scooter or a skateboard after he reaches a certain age, and I can dig that. But my bit was a little bit more. And he said, "You have my blessing to go play," but, for me, without him playing the drums, it wouldn't be close. Me and Tommy, yeah, we're the frontmen in the end, and we had Steve and [latter era guitarist] Slim [Dunlap], who were just sort of hired hands. But Chris was a big part of the whole thing, especially in the beginning of the humor and the push-the-envelope chaos. He was very much one of us.
Paul, it really sounds like you want a Replacements reunion to happen.
Not as bad as Tommy [laughs]. When it came down to just me and Tommy [being interested in a reunion], my first thought was, like, "Okay, we're the Replacements, we'll do me and you, and we'll put the name on the ticket, and [then] we'll audition a bass player and a drummer for every single song, so it will be Tommy and Paul, and a cast of thousands. Ya know, THE REPLACEMENTS." We laughed about the idea, and thought about the reality of it, and it's like, "Is that gonna work? Nah."

That is if you considered them to be a band to begin with....for those who always saw them as contracted employees (with additional creative freedom)...this could easily be interpreted as a sign that the album is indeed finished, handed in, and is going through the corporate process it has to go through before it gets released....
the guys have done their thing, they got paid for it....thank you very much....they are currently not needed...its an Axl Rose show...the last stretch of the road is purely his now...
the fact that these guys (Robin) are doing longer term commitments only indicates that they won't be needed for some time still....which is not a bad thing....
Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion
Big feature on the Mats in Spin this month. It says Tommy is just writing solo material and waiting for Gnr to ramp up again. Definitely nothing to say that he left Gnr....it calls Gnr his day job. Apparently he remixed some of the music and played a very large role in putting the reissues together. That is obviously what he did after Gnr stopped touring in July 07. Great pics in the Spin article as well. You can see it in the bad obsession section at HTGTH.:mosh:
On a Mats reunion, Tommy says the ball is in Westerberg's court so Tommy would obviously do it.:ummm:

Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion
Your probably right. Then again..I rememeber Slash doing Snakepit while he waited for GNR to re-group...and we know how that ended
Re: Tommy/Westerberg consider a Replacements reunion
For those of you interested in the Replacements but haven't really listend to them, they sound alot like Soul Asylum. Or should I say Soul Asylum sound like them as the Replacements were a huge influence on Soul Asylum along with bands like Husker Du and the Jayhawks. If you listen to early Replacements and early Soul Asylum and listen to how their carrers devoloped it's crazy the similarities in style. Both huge bands in Minneapolis though so it's not surprising I guess. They are friends so....
As far as "Guns N' Roses" being in trouble with departures.....Well it dosen't matter who leaves they were never ment to be heard as Gn'R anyways. It's all simply been a stalling tactic. A way for Axl to work out his vision without holding the real Gn'R back. The pieces are all falling into place. The current band members are starting to accept nothing is ever gonna happen with this lineup, VR is singerless and I highly doubt they just go out and get a new singer. Axl has this masterpiece in his head but has never found the musicians to bring it to life. The only guy who can relate to what he's trying to say is Slash. If you're a fan of the new band yeah they're in trouble and unfortunately you'll never get to hear the abnd you've waited to hear. As far as CD and Guns N' Roses goes I think this is ultimately what Axl was gonna do no matter what. Gn'R means too much to him to have all these guys be involved. Axl knows better than anyone that Gn'R is Axl, Sash and Duff and Izzy if he wants to be a part if it. CD is gonna have Slash's finger prints all over it.
just my opinion of course.
