So funny story. ..

I went to both shows in Chicago last year.  The second show we had a group of maybe 10 people meet up at my friend's house and we walked to the venue from there.  We had good seats just to the right of the stage maybe 3 or 4 rows up.  One of the people we were with knew fernando, and fernando upgraded all of us to the pit.  As I shook his hand thanking him, I chuckled thinking there's no way he would have done that if he knew I was buzzsaw on this site.

This place is still the place I go to.  I have an account at mygnr, but I almost never go there.  For all of its "faults" this place is home. It's family. We fight.  We don't agree on stuff, but I've met a few of you for beers over the years and never had a bad experience or regretted it.

Beers in Vegas with some of you guys are some of my fondest memories 5

14 No shit. If anything, you might have got escorted out of the building. 13

They read this site. Probably don't anymore but they did back then. ALL of them.

wow 10 years!

To be honest though I thought it would have been slightly longer...maybe i'm thinking of the ROV days...or meeting some of you on HTGTH before...but I kinda feel like we've known each other even longer!

Next year is the 10 year anniversary of CD, and 17 years since they debuted Silkworms....something to blow the mind hahah

I think ROV started in March or April 2006.

It was just a little piece of shit site. Had a couple people. No different than hundreds of others that fail within a week. Brody sent invites to a few random HTGTH members. He lucked into me being one of them. That was when the censoring had started and i said, fuck it....lets do it. It was a combination of things that got it off the ground so quickly....me being more well liked than I had thought, and others were getting sick of the brewing censorship.

Within a year we cracked the top 3 most active GNR sites.

Nobody else has ever done that. It usually takes communities years to get that far. What really greased the wheels was the following was so loyal/hardcore. It wasn't just the 'alternative' site. It was becoming the site a lot of fans came to first.

I loved it when news would get censored. Our guests viewing would skyrocket. It was actually funny. People knew it was where to go to get news, which is why the media started following us.

Everyone else hated us....and I liked it.

I HATED the name ROV. It was way too cheesy for the community that was under that banner. I think it hurt us actually. He wouldn't change it though.  It was because it was the only thing he could take credit for....the name.

I don't remember media outlets paying attention to us....when did that happen?

Is that what started the influx? Jarmo taking perks in exchange for censoring the site?

Cheers to 10 years guys.

2007-08.

Classic Rock magazine, Idolator, LA Times, Stereogum, etc. Spin might have been one of them as well....don't remember.

Also got a bunch of mentions when 'chicken dinner' was leaked because all searches for it led straight here.

Wish I had kept track of all that stuff.

10 years is a great effort!  It’s been a fun ride, even if it feels somewhat like we are at the destination now. This site and community has given me hours and hours of reading/ discussion pleasure over the journey with a healthy dose of drama thrown in as well.

Happy birthday!

Whatever happened to Brody? I forgot all about him.

There were a lot of attempts to start a GN'R site with the whole jarmo thing (he really shit the bed with how powerful his site was, now it's nothing). It's funny how nice people went on an immediate power trip over it. And really, the drama we have is sooooooo smaller than what goes on other sites.

Wow this is amazing. I've come to this site every day for the past 10 years. Unreal.

Got to like the crowd because of the chatroom in the old RoV. Had some good action in there!

True...but then to this day he travels the world with the band as a part of the crew...don't think he'd mind the site going AWOL...he won at GNR....

Cheers everybody! Hopefully we can do a meetup real soon. Not going to be able to do any of the shows on this current GNR tour. Saving my money for other things! 5
