Re: Messages

I've been listening to this song a fair bit recently and it just gets better and better with each listen imo. It's right up there with Slither and FTP, how this song never made it onto Libertad I'll never know, it's an absolute gem, the final verse and solo from Scott and Slash is a really magic moment. How does everyone else feel about this track now, nearly a year on from first hearing it?

It may be my favorite VR song or at the very least it's right there with Slither and far ahead of FTP in my opinion.

Like I said on the old site about this song, its really the first glimpse of what a modern sounding old GNR would have come up with.

I would not be surprised if this song originated in the Izzy era of the project and wound up being worked on during the Libertad sessions.

I'd love to hear how Axl would approach the song.

I love the tone of Slash' guitar it sounds awesome.

Whilst I think Weiland sounds pretty good on vocals, I agree and would love to have heard an Axl version!

Yeah, the lyrics are a bit shallow for such a topic and Weiland doesn't rise to the level needed in such a song.

Like others, I never understood why it didn't make the record. My two favorites(Messages and Psycho Killer) weren't considered worthy of a mediocre album.

i still think the last fight is a better tune, and gravedancer is awesome too...and i am willing to bet that duff and slash didnt want an album full of ballads so one had to go

I haven't listened to anything from this album since about two weeks after its release.
