New video for the 50th anniversary.

Amazing.

The box set is killer. I was worried after that terrible 50th anniversary Dark Side box set that had less material than the Immersion set.

While it's cool and definitely improved over the old bootleg, a bit concerning that they used an ancient fan bootleg for the live discs/LPs. I really hate how these major acts approaching death are still hoarding material.

Was also hoping for a remix but on the other hand....like Dark Side, it really can't be improved.

Did a remix for Animals because it needed it.

Highlights of this set....

Hard to say what my favorite band is. I feel that Pink Floyd, if we include Roger Waters solo, made the better music. But I can't just dismiss GN'R either. I say that because whereas I'm always interested in unreleased GN'R stuff, I have zero interest in Pink Floyd or Roger Waters box sets, or any other band for that matter. If GN'R was my favorite band by a clear margin that might make sense, but it's not, so I have no idea why that is.

Perhaps it is because I enjoy the individual talent of Axl, Slash and Duff. But with PF and Waters it is the whole that matters. I'm not particularly impressed by their guitar or vocals skills. Waters was ace on the vocals in the 80s, but that was a very fleeting thing, not raw talent like Axl Rose. With Axl I am interested in his voice in all eras, with Roger it is just a couple of albums in the early to mid 80s.

Great set though. Would like to own it just for the sake of it. But probably won't bother since I will never listen to it.

Damn...I hope my Pink Floyd fandom never reaches that point. I listen to them a lot. Makes me wonder if I should take a break. tongue

Waters talents mainly reside in composing all those songs/albums using his natural instincts when it came to those albums.

The more ego entered the equation, everything else starts going into decline.

You're right about Pink Floyd being more about the whole than individual members. Together it's perfect....once it starts veering into solo projects, there's something missing from all of them.

Couple times this year I've listened to Radio Kaos. It's a very average album....I do really like Radio Waves....

While listening, you instantly think about how much this could've been improved had it been a Pink Floyd project instead.

What pulls you into Axl/GNR and why you hold them in such high regard even though it's probably not warranted is likely the same reason I do....

All the hope/promise and wasted potential of 21st century GNR.

In the early chapters of the saga, the band members were referring to the songs as earth shattering epics. When I think earth shattering epics...I think Pink Floyd.

Various people who heard the material described it as The Wall mixed by Trent Reznor.

Who wouldn't pine for such songs?

As we now painfully know, each peak behind the curtain in the form of leaks show that such songs were not coming....the earth shattering epics mixed by Reznor would always be a mirage faintly hanging on in the distance.

To the hardcore fan who experienced the saga, there's always that hope that the next leak/song release will reveal that earth shattering epic we've all waited for.

For the majority left, they're all in on Seven being IT.

For me... it's Oklahoma.

In reality, we all know deep down what these songs will be....they'll have a quickly thrown together verse/chorus and it will repeat depending on how lengthy the music is.

How do we know this? It's the pattern for "the second half of Chinese" He abandoned the project before finishing it.

Even knowing that, there's always that hope for one final grand slam....

There's gotta be....right?!? I mean....he assembled a supergroup for fucks sake.
