That wasn't official, although I'm sure you knew that.
The site was pulled(if memory serves me correctly) because they had taped someones phone call and posted it. Thats illegal without consent.
Their myspace page was also pulled at the same time.
I thought the site was really fucking stupid. I actually like a few of the people who did it though. They just took it too seriously and it got out of control. The spamming was ridiculous.

I didn't know the story. I was sort of out of the loop for awhile back then.
No lawsuit threatened that I know of. It was just erased from the net in the blink of an eye.
A backlash had already been brewing over that site or they probably would have brought it back. The site would have been successful if they hadn't went overboard. A few of their members spammed every site on the net with links. I remember in the ROV chat, Jackamo posted the link like 20 times in a row. Ridiculous.
The site was basically a joke. Not really mocking the band, but more mocking the fanbase. Most creative thing they did was those "interviews" with various people and they'd throw Pitman questions in there. Once all the brain dead dipshits thought it was trendy to say eatmysilkworms every nanosecond, the site was doomed. The creators started taking it more seriously and what novelty and uniqueness it had was thrown out the window.
