An anonymous source has told us that Canadian singer/songwriter Brian Byrne (Ex-Singer of Canadian Alternative Band, I Mother Earth) is one of the singers being auditioned for Velvet Revolver's open vocalist slot. Brian is currently pursuing a Solo career in the Toronto Area.

He has some of his own current music and a couple music videos on his myspace page:

He was the Lead Singer for I Mother Earth from 1997-2003 releasing 2 albums in that time frame below are 2 IME videos from the Brian Byrne years.

Yeah, looks like they are considering some lesser known names. Actually it might be a wise move after dealing with the rock star antics of Weiland.

Will be interesting to see how this develops....

Awesome news Neemo, I'd prefer a lesser known frontman myself as well.  This sort of singer would most likely bring more energy, be more easy to "blend" with the rest of the band's ideas and hopefully bring less baggage.

I like the second song you posted, and think he could be a better fit than Weiland was. Don't know why exactly, but Scott did not work well with those guys. Not his fault necessarily, but I won't pretend that I ever listen to VR.

I agree 100%. I am a huge Weiland fan, but him and the GNR guys mixed like oil and yogurt. It just wasn't a good combination. A few really good tunes, but nothing to really float my boat.

I agree.  Scott is much better suited in STP than with GNR.

Like the Sun sounds amazing. I think his talents would mix very well with Slash and co. The lyrics are very meaningful.

I Mother Earth was one of 4 major canadian Bands from the early 90's, the other 3 being Moist (David Usher who bono always raves about), The Tea Party and Our Lady Peace (prolly the most US successful of the 4)

You forgot The Tragically Hip, probably the most internationally acclaimed band to come out of Canada at the time.  Nonetheless, I Mother Earth was better with the first guy.  Still, I'm rooting for this guy (gotta root for the Newfie!) and he'd be a better fit than Scott was.  He'd also fit far better than Baz.
