Yes he did.  They added him for those records.

I thought Axl played piano on the songs where it mattered though. I don't remember Dizzy really doing anything important for the UYI albums. Or the CD albums it seems.

Yeah, Dizzy played some, but most was Axl.

I have a theory what when Chinese Democracy comes out a lot of the stuff on leaks being credited to Pitman will be the same way.

He was very nearly part of the AFD line up. As for his being talented, aside from his GN'R contributions mentioned above, I'm personally a fan of his solo stuff and think he writes a hell of a melody.

I don't place anymore importance on Slash then say Duff or Izzy. I am aware that the rest of the world may because of Slash's high profile, but I don't.

Yeah the old school fans often feel that way..but i think in terms of iconic status to people who don't really know the band...they just see an angry redhead and a dude wearing a top hat...to the general public the UYI lineup was still GNR without question, but the current line up doesn't have the same respect out there.

Why wouldn't the Illusions line up still be GN'R? Because they replaced their unimpressive, incompetant drummer with a more reliable player? Because they had a touring rhythm guitarist fill in for Izzy, who was still represented on most of the then new music they were playing? Because of the addition of Dizzy, a talented keyboardist who gets all too often shit on even though he should have been the sixth member of GN'R since day one? The Illusions line up is the penultimate line up. Not all of us worship at the altar of AFD.

Yeah man i love Gilby and the UYI line up...i wasn't  bashing it. I was just saying that to a non fan - basicly the only thing they recgonise and care about to think "GNR" is Axl and Slash....and therefore any line up with those two has street-cred as GNR and any line up without them - to the general public is NOT the real GNR.

The online Fans are different...some of us want only the AFD guys, some want only the UYI guys, Some want the buckethead 2001 line up, some want the 2007 line up, some want a mix...and all of us are pretty intense about what we want....but like to a mom and dad on the street who arn't special gnr fans...if they know the band they think Axl and Slash....
