Famed Bass Legend Bootsy Collins Teams Up With Brain and Buckethead In New Band

Living On Another Frequency by Science Faxtion Lands October 28 on Mascot Records

New York, NY (September 8, 2008)'”Like the bastard child of Primus and Parliament-Funkadelic (with Guns N' Roses claiming to be the father), Science Faxtion will have its outrageous Living On Another Frequency debut released by Mascot Records on October 28.

This dream-team of a band combines the legendary bassist Bootsy Collins'”who, with James Brown in the 1960s and Parliament-Funkadelic in the 1970s, set the course of modern funk'”with none other than Guitarist Extraordinaire Buckethead (Guns N' Roses, Iggy Pop, Mike Patton, Les Claypool, Bernie Worrell, Serj Tankian, Tony Williams and Bill Laswell), drummer Brain (Primus, Tom Waits, Godflesh), and producer/singer/songwriter/guitarist Greg Hampton (Alice Cooper/Ron Wood, Rick Derringer, The Tubes, Jack Casady featuring Ivan Neville & Gov't Mule, Jorma Kaukenon, Little Feat). The resulting cross-pollination of genres implicit in such a musical meeting-of-the-minds means there's no telling what direction Science Faxtion may traverse!

The CD features an allstar cast, including contributions from rapper Chuck D of Public Enemy, Bernie Worrell and others. Although Hampton produced, sang lead, composed and played guitar on Living On Another Frequency, he also plays bass, drums, keyboards and percussion, and has performed every genre of music in his wide-ranging career from funk, hard rock, metal and pop to country.

'Originally, it was Bootsy,' explains Hampton. 'We were going to be referencing more of his oldschool and historical funk elements that we all grew up with. Then he had the epiphany of us doing a group project, having me sing and play guitar, and bringing in Buckethead and Brain. And DJ Botieus does a lot of programming. He's definitely a secret weapon.'

For Bootsy, it was a regeneration of sorts. He sings, he drums, he funks up the bass. The CD grooves and rocks big-time. And that's its essence. You'd think with such a legend, that Brain (from Primus) and Buckethead (from Guns N' Roses) would go to the soul side. Not so! Bootsy is now firmly entrenched, for the first time in his illustrious career, in the rock. And he's loving every minute of it. It has to be heard to be believed.

'It's like Audioslave-meets-Nine Inch Nails,' enthuses Hampton.

I like the part about Bootsy rocking out, and he loves it. He's a helluva bassist.

I honestly haven't heard that much (if anything) from him.  I'll look forward to this even more to be able to check him out.  9

He mostly does funk/funk rock stuff, but he's played on some Buckethead stuff. His sound? Space bass.
