Yeah, I've been staring at the same situation since 2001 and have been listening to the same bullshit reunion theories ever since.

It's a bunch of old school fans who are holding onto an unrealistic hope that something will happen to fulfill a fantasy, without looking at the reality of the situation. Since this new line up has formed every little thing that happens in the GNR world is viewed upon (by the same people, over and over) somehow points to a reunion, no matter how ridiculous. Been there, done that a thousand times over. There is nothing at all that points to a reunion, only wishful thinking.

And The Replacements vs GNR debate is lame.

But Tommy's Bass riffs in Chinese Democracy fucking owns!:mosh:

Your point regarding "a bunch of old school fans" is a pretty broad prejudicial stroke, and could not be further from the truth.  The reunion rumors have much credence, and are based upon rumblings suggesting this is on the table from inside the GN'R camp.  Moreover, the rumblings in 2003/2004 now have credence, as we have found out they were on the verge of reuniting then.

BTW, Tommy Stinson is flat out amazing!

Calling him a yes man isn't any more out of place than calling him a rock star.

This statement, in addition to your insinuation that Hootie and the Blowfish are a staples of modern rock radio, puts your credibility in grave danger.  Tommy Stinson not only is a rock star, he is a natural rock star.  For God's sake, he's played in two of the most influential bands of the last twenty years, and is on a few of the top 100 most influential rock albums (see The Replacements in wiki or google for a briefer) ever made. My God....

http://www.treblezine.com/reviews/195.html

In the liner notes of the Replacements' compilation record, All For Nothing, Jim Dickinson, the producer of Pleased to Meet Me had this to say about Tommy: "I want to say this about Tommy: Some people say that Keith Richards is the embodiment of rock and roll. Well, I know `em both and I say it's Tommy Stinson. Keith is a cowboy, he goes back to Gene Autry. Tommy'”he goes back to Johnny Thunders. Tommy Stinson is rock and roll." Amen.

Not many people in rock and roll have as storied a past and as dramatic a career as Tommy Stinson. For starters, Tommy was a founding member of the über-influential band the Replacements at the age of thirteen! Check it again, do the math. Tommy was born in '66 and the band formed in '79. Not only that, he had to play an integral part in the firing of his older brother Bob from the band due to alcohol and drug addiction and also his resistance to go into a mainstream direction. Deal with that, Gallagher brothers! Setting aside the hypocrisy of a partying band from firing Bob (it's kinda like firing a pornstar for acquiring an STD), after the increasing commercialism of the music led to Paul Westerberg's solo career, brother Bob died at the age of 35. Tommy formed his own bands upon the demise of the `Mats, first Bash and Pop, and later Perfect. Today he is better known for backing up P. Diddy on the "All About the Benjamins" remix and for being the `replacement' bass player for the new incarnation of Guns `n' Roses. Whoa.

So the liner notes of an album he plays on and 2 guys at a GnR site say he's a rock star?  I'm going to need a little bit better sources than that.  Nice try, but he is not, nor was he ever a star.  Therefore, by definition, he was never and never will be a rock star.  Thank you and have a nice day.

I don't understand why the couple Stinson fans take that as an insult.  There are very few true rock stars out there, and there might be a handful of them that play bass.  Not being a rock star doesn't mean he sucks...it just means nobody (meaning the general public for the people waiting to pick this apart) knows who he is.

Good lord you are clueless!  The world is flat as well, right?:butt:

How was that a broad stroke? I was pointing out a specific group of old school fan that regurgitates the same reunion "theories" over and over for almost ten years now.

*takes a breath*

Who the hell inside the GNR camp is suggesting this is on the table?? And when in the world did we find out they were close to reuniting in 2004-2006? Who, how, where and when did this happen??

I know I wasn't in a coma at any point, or suffer any kind of head injury that would cause me to miss this huge piece of info... When did this happen?

Actually you're wrong bro. Take it from someone who used to say EXACTLY what YOU just said a thousand times over.

For the first time ever there's actual evidence to support a theory for a GN'R reunion being the works. The first time - EVER. It might be wishful thinking, but to say right now out there, there's nothing at all that points to a reunion is narrow minded.

I'd go so far to say there's more that points to a reunion, then there is evidence that points to CD actually getting released.

Tommys a rocker through and through. He was out touring whilst Axl was still in school not getting pussy 14 It may not make him a "rock star" but he's paid his dues and the lack of respect he gets shown by GNR fans is disgusting.

The Mats were never commercially successful. Partly because the more the fans egged them on the more they purposely fucked it up for themselves. Given the choice between any GNR record (incl. Chi Dem) or an old Mats album I know I'd pick Mats any day of the week.

Just my $0.02 of course smile

Nobody knows Tommy Stinson. Not in Europe, for sure. Nobody knows Replacements here. He can be amazing or mediocre or anything, but he's faaaaaar from being a rock star. When you ask people about bass players (here in Europe) they'd name Paul McCartney, Flea, Nikki Sixx and John Paul Jones. Some will add 'that blond guy from Guns N' Roses' or 'that silent guy from Rolling Stones', but that's it. It doesn't mean who's better, it means who is more famous. Who is a rock star.

Re: Guns N Roses on Universal Music Group Release List

Some of you are so narrow-minded, unaware that The Replacements are arguably the most influential alt. rock band on the planet, and that Tommy Stinson, is more respected and recognized in a certain groups of rock fans than anyone from GNR.  BTW, the Mats have been steadily selling large volumes of records for twenty years.  Moreover, their recent reissues have been doing very well.  Most rock/music fans, ones who follow music and buy music, know who Tommy Stinson is--for that reason alone, he is a rock star. He may not be a celebrity like Slash or Axl, but he is a famous, recognizable, rock star.  If you are a member of The Replacements, GN'R, and founder of Bash and Pop and Perfect, you are a god damned rock star.

Saying Tommy Stinson is not a rock star, is like saying that Frank Black is a nobody.  Wake the fuck up people, crawl out of the GNR cave, and check out some other caves (no pun intended Plato).

BTW, the question now isn't if a reunion is happening, it's when are we going to find out and if they have an album ready or in the pipeline.  Some info came to light, from certain "Name Brands" (LOL) which indicated something is happening, or everyone with Axl's best interests in mind are trying like hell to save his ass.  Slash and Duff work with Azoff (he's their manager)--it is no coincidence they are defending Axl.  They love the guy, and want to reach out to him.  They realize they shouldn't have left, and feel guilt that they let him slip into a hole at his house surrounded by sycophants , and did not stick around to pull him out of it and keep him grounded.  Axl is a vulnerable, fairly innocent guy, who just happens to be very talented and extremely insecure.  Old school friends, workers, and mentors are trying to get this guy back--and help him succeed and be happy.  That is all I am going to say, as I am now inferring things, based on small tidbits of info.  I would deduce, though, this is some of what is  happening.

I don't live under a rock. Accept that nobody knows The Replacements in Europe. Nobody knows Frank Black, too. Stone Temple Pilots had only some thousand fans here when they sold millions in the US. Oasis is quite big here, yet they had a hard time to get attention in the US. Rap music isn't too popular here, but a lot of people are into techno and other shit. Different continent, you know. Anyway, Tommy Stinson is not a rock star. I don't wanna touch a nerve, but rock stars rarely work as telemarketers.

Funny, I know quite a few people in Europe and Scandinavia who are die-hard Mat's fans.  I guess they are nobodies.   I have some pretty kick-ass video of Frank and his band (i'll let you figure it out since you know it all) performing to fairly big crowds, who were rabid, in Europe.
