Re: Slash Exercises Freedom With Solo Album
I know that a lot of fans wanna hear Baz, Alice Cooper, Michael Monroe etc. on the record, but I don't really need to hear Slash ripping with these guys again, since I don't see anything new and exciting coming out. I enjoy the Slash & Alice songs, but they're like, yeah, it's great, but we've heard it a million times. The direction I really want Slash to go is the one he mentioned before The Project, when he started working on his solo material, exploring African, Asian etc. music. That would be an amazing and exotic record with some bluesier songs and guest singers like Linda Perry, Fergie, Amy Winehouse, Lenny Kravitz etc. That's what I want.
When I was thinking of my favourite albums of all time, I realized that most of them materialized when the artist (whom I like for his/her 'usual stuff') came out of his/her comfort zone. Tori Amos exploded when started working with electronica on her From The Choirgirl Hotel album, leaving the piano in the corner. PJ Harvey's Is This Desire? and White Chalk are far from her punky guitar stuff - the first is full of electronica, the second is a piano album. Nick Cave left the harder and groovy rocking (I can't find the right words) and 'distrurbing' songs for And No More Shall We Part, which is mostly a piano album. Reznor's best work (since the magnificent TDS) is Still. He should have gone to that direction - thanks to Jeremy Dillon, we got nearLy. Robert Plant's best record in the last 30 years was his collabo with bluegrass star Alison Krauss... I mean... if Slash does something different, like the Obsession song with Marta Sanchez, it will be fantastic.

I agree, that would be an excellent avenue for Slash to explore, we've already had his brand of rock n' roll with Snakepit. Not only that but I think a bluesy and more diverse album would definitely have a wider appeal.
That song he did with Elan or whoever it was was awesome
