I'd say he is partially right....to quote obiwan kenobi....."from a certain point of view"....although I think drug use played a substantial role in his sacking...but then perhaps there was some ego behind the need for drugs.

I don't mean to drag Axl into all of this, but I think the failure of Velvet Revolver to stay together exonerates him a little. It just shows that maybe duff n' slash have strong opinions themselves, although I guess if you put drugs into the equation it's anybody's guess who was at fault.

I think anyone who says Scott was the bigger ego in this whole equation is making a bold statement.
After what Slash, Duff and Matt went through with Axl, i'm willing to bet they didn't tolerate a lot of ego well at all. Especially Matt.

or because of that situation, they decided that the wheel was gonna be in their hands... their egos must have played a role in the decision...
and right outta the chute they fucked that up by placating scott , giving him a certain amount of control that undercutted what they were originally trying to do...
and of course, that blew up his ego even more...
wait.. does that even make sense?
all of them and their "rock star" ego's played a role in the demise of VR...

I remember Axl saying that on the Illusion records that Slash or Duff wouldn't play on certain songs if their songs weren't recorded. The same shit happened with Velvet Revolver on Libertad. I ain't saying Weiland ain't to blame here cause I'm sure part of the blame lies on him (like part of the blame for GNR breaking up lies on Axl) but Duff and Slash and Matt aren't completely angels either.

I remember Axl saying that on the Illusion records that Slash or Duff wouldn't play on certain songs if their songs weren't recorded. The same shit happened with Velvet Revolver on Libertad. I ain't saying Weiland ain't to blame here cause I'm sure part of the blame lies on him (like part of the blame for GNR breaking up lies on Axl) but Duff and Slash and Matt aren't completely angels either.
Axl was talking about the whole band, including himself. But some of the efforts are half-assed, 'guest'-type performances, that's why the Illusions are more likely to be a collection of solo albums than an actual band release. With a few exceptions.
I agree wtih the VR thing, not putting out Messages showed how disfunctional the band was at that time.
@ Scott: I'm surprised how mature his commented the break-up. As much as I'm not a Scott fan, he handles the this thing much more intelligent than the Slash-Duff-Matt camp. Not that Slash&Co would be too hateful, bitter or anything about this.

Maybe Axl included himself in this. And perhaps he became like this with them out of being tired. Cause I remember hearing Stinson talking about how he liked that all the songs on CD were songs where all the players got to give the songs their own twists. Everybody could give their inputs and that was what got him hooked on the GNR thing.
