British rock journalist Mick Wall, who released a biography of GUNS N' ROSES frontman Axl Rose, "W.A.R.: The Unauthorized Biography of William Axl Rose", in February 2008, has posted the following message on his blog:
"Seeing as people keep asking: yeah, I think [GUNS N' ROSES' long-awaited new album] 'Chinese Democracy' is not bad at all. It is what it is, you know, an over-reaching, self-pitying piece of inspired lunacy by someone who should really know better but is surrounded by weak-willied wankers too scared of and/or reliant on him for their paychecks to tell him the truth. 'Better' is good though. As is 'There Was A Time', 'IRS', 'Madagascar' and a couple of others. 'If The World' would have been a much better Bond movie theme than the awful shite Jack White and wassername came up with. 12 years and $13 million, though. Gimme a break. Sitting there listening to the 'finished' album in Universal last week the two things I kept thinking as it was playing were: a) Axl would shit if he knew his record company were actually playing me this, but then looking around at the kids working there most of them weren't born when 'Appetite For Destruction' came out and probably think Slash is the singer. And b) yaaawwwnnnn, is it finished yet?
"Seriously, it was such an anti-climax. Partly because I already knew nine of the tracks well from the Internet bootlegs that have been circulating for at least two years and which the 'finished' album sound exactly alike. Partly because, come on, 400 years and $50 trillion, I mean, who fucking cares anymore? And where's Slash when you need him? Ultimately, what I'd like to ask Axl Rose at this point is this: like, what's for dessert, dude?"
Mick Wall's unauthorized GN'R biography, "Guns N Roses: The Most Dangerous Band In The World", first published in Britain by Sidgwick & Jackson in 1991 (and in America, in updated form, the following year, by Hyperion) so incensed W. Axl Rose that he wrote a song about it, "Get In The Ring", from GN'R's 1991 zillion-selling "Use Your Illusion II" album.

Maybe, but he's not the only one that feels that way. Axl's riding the coattails of what he did 17 years ago...are you going to call him a loser too?

Who isn't riding their own coattails? Are you not in your current position because of something you have done in the past?
He is a loser because he's attempting to make money of what somebody else has done and slamming them for it. Axl gives me music, what does Mick Wall offer? Hate and bitterness? Childishness?
Please, it's not comparable in a long shot. I wouldn't be seen dead with a viper such as Mick Wall.

First of all, you can't ride the coattails of yourself or your own accomplishments. Axl, Slash, and the guys redefined rock music. Mick Wall was a glorified starfucker. Second of all, Wall is an irresponsible journalist and a prick who'd rather resort to name calling and slander rather than form any semi-intelligent critique. He gives no respect and therefore should receive none in return.

First of all, you can't ride the coattails of yourself or your own accomplishments.
Actually, when the accomplishments were not just yours, but those of a group or "band" collectively, you can ride your own coattails. I highly doubt anything short of AFD would have netted Axl the opportunity to release CD 20 years later, yet here he is without the others that helped create AFD riding the coattails (literally and figuratively if you count the tours) of AFD. Slash wouldn't have had either Snakepit band or VR either without AFD, so Axl isn't the only guilty party. That's what people do...
As for Mick Wall, who cares? If he wrote books saying Axl was great, half of you would be eating out of the palm of his hand. He didn't, he painted a picture of Axl that isn't flattering. People care about his opinion, so they ask for it and he gives it. It's his right. Maybe you should spend more time wondering why people care what Mick Wall has to say instead of calling him names because you don't like what he has to say. If he's getting attention due to GnR, there's only 1 person responsible for that.
