Like it or not, Adler was the drummer on GN'Rs two defining albums. He was perfect for the original band.

See the whole thing about gnr is which era you like. For some it's the AFD era, for others the UYI era. For me it's UYI. I don't think adler's drumming would fit with UYI stuff.

Strat's right...

I grew up with UYI, and am living in the CD era. My first GN'R live experience, was with Frank.

Those things add into who exactly I like, and why I rank them.

In many ways I appreciate the UYI and CD stuff more than the original era, but I don't see how one can look at the ritz band and not say "now that's rock n' fuckin' roll". What came after was cool and all, but it wasn't the same. It wasn't as real.

I don't know much about drumming, but if I'd have to say Steven was probably the least talented of them, but had a great, basic rock beat to his tracks. And as others have said had that youthful style of having fun & partying. His drum beats were pretty basic though, with a fill here & there. But I wouldn't say it was very technical.

I agree though, that was my favorite GnR sound. UYI had a change, not sure if I'd solely blame the drum sound, but it definitely changed. Not as drastic, but similar to Def Leppards change in sound from Pyromaniac (basic rock) to Hysteria (new sound, of course this was due to drummers car crash & loss of arm)
