Tyler, WeTheLiving brought up the exact point I was going to bring up.
Alot of people are forgetting... if CD flops, the record company might not be licking their lips for a 2nd, or 3rd album, no matter how much the fans want it, and GN'R want to release it.
Which puts Axl back at the drawing board. He would be sitting on a wealth of material, that unless it were reworked by the old band, would only be marketable under the 'Axl Rose' banner, and it wouldn't get near the push that CD has gotten. I don't believe the CD thing was a multi-album deal.

Buckethead coming back is the ony thing that can save Axl's vision of GNR....
But anyway you look at it, even if CD is disappointing sells wise, its still going to sell a lot. That means there will be other releases, they will make money, but they will steadily decline in interest and in sells. As i said, only Buckethead can save this sinking ship.

How much is "a lot?" From what im gathering from the vibe on the radio, from bars ive been to (with Chi-dem plastered on the digitial jukebox for play) and from my friends that grew up on AFD and UYI-the record just simply is not being received well, this is coming from someone who has supported this project for 10 years. This first week of sales was bound to happen because of the curiosity factor of this album, but after this first week or so, its sink or swim on the quality, and/or the acceptability of the material. If it flops what does Axl do, flop more albums? Do a tour with material nobody wants to hear? He cant in all honesty do a AFD tour now that Chi-Dem is out. I remember the radio dominance GNR used to have. Shiny Toy Guns beat "better" in a call in contest on my local radio station. this isnt conclusive as to the material, but it is a bit strange hearing people refer to GNR this way (i was shocked when a caller said better was "horrible") I dont think it is horrible, of course, but im startbing to think this thing is going to be like "oh my god."

having a record open at #2, which its expected to do, and selling 300,000 copies its first week is still GOOD. Probably not what people had hoped for, but what they expected. I'm not basing this on what I hear on the radio, or at bars or what my friends think. Those aren't horrible numbers. And if it weren't for Kanye West the album would be number #1. Will people say its a flop? Yeah, probably, but based on the figures it's doing pretty well, especially for a record nowadays. People who base their opinions in reality, knowing it was never going to set the world on fire, will see it as such. Its actually doing much better than I thought it would.
GNR, even with the original line up, will never be as huge as they once were. There aren't many "big" named bands who can do it now. And with the silly ass tours they've done before the album they've shown that they can make a living off touring. I don't see that as a problem.

One thing to be pondered is how big is Kanye West and other #1 in America artists in other parts of the world? You hear of American sales all the time, but people don't really stop and think how big a band is worldwide. Bands like GNR and AC/DC have fans all over the world, so that could play into the sales factor, too.
I'm not sure if anyone can comment on this, but it's food for thought.

You misunderstand what im saying. These "opinions" im speaking of is whats going to be left after this initial marketing surge and curiosity fator "shakes out." As you said, this cd was bound to do what it did sell about 300k copies. After this intial surge whats going to sell albums is the material itself, and from what im gathering its not the masterpiece it was heralded to be-mind you this is as it has been labeled by the GNR camp, they raised the bar this high. What im saying is that due to the unique press over the last decade this album has had, the first week sales isnt necessarily indicative of the quality of the material-its going to be a few weeks before its evident as to how it is received-as well as if its getting radio play.

if there are 3 albums worth of material, that were made on Interscope's dime, why would they NOT want to release them???
getting something, ANYTHING, back on that investment would be a good thing. i mean, am i missing something here?
also, remember, the label has made more money up front in the deal with Best Buy. it's has little to do with first week sales.
does anyone know the exact details of that deal?
also, we have no idea what type of contract would be drawn up for a tour and who would get any of those profits.

the latest rumor i heard was like 1.5million units for 8 or 9 bucks a peice
but I dont know anything that would confirm or deny those #'s ... it may have been madagas posting something he read @ another forum
but if its 1.5 @ $9 per then you are looking at $13.5mill up front...there goes the initial debt
so the gnr advance is cleared up and all the songs that had been leaked are now in circulation...also best buy is making about $4 profit off each disk they sell....its a pretty sweet deal for all involved

BH coming back isn't going to save it. He's on the album and it isn't helping. I get that some people love him, but the truth is Axl + Slash = GnR to the general public and no other guitar player is going to be able to fill that role. It may not be fair, but it is what it is.
