The Inquisition: Scott Weiland

From STP to Velvet Revolver to his new solo album, Weiland has mastered the art of living on the edge.

By John Sellers 11.23.08

The binges, the arrests, the pimp hats -- Scott Weiland has lived dangerously for much of the past two decades. But the man can safely claim to be one of the most successful artists of the past 20 years, pushing 35 million records worldwide as frontman for grunge-era scene-stealers Stone Temple Pilots and supergroup Velvet Revolver. Following the latter's implosion in March, Weiland's back with STP, and on November 25, he releases his second solo album, "Happy" in Galoshes (New West). He's also not ruling out a Velvet Revolver reunion. "Slash and I always got on pretty well," he says. "So who knows?" Weiland, 41, spoke to us from his home in Southern California.

I think it's too soon to be thinking about a VR reunion, and I think Scott is now using the VR to promote his new album.

It seemed to me, as an outsider, that Scott got onto drugs again, and sort of got on a STP ego trip towards the end of VR. It was clear he was interested in a STP reunion months before it happened, he kept making refrences to it. Now, perhaps having got it out of his system, he might be more co-operative in VR. Then again, I doubt the VR guys would want to eat humble pie by returing with him, but perhaps once sufficent solo album type water under the bridge passed.

I just want to see some form of VR continue, or more particularly Slash and Duff and matt working together as they have so much chemistry. While he is no axl, I can't deny scott was written some good songs, and is a decent front man - so i'd welcome his return over the hiring of a scott-imitation front man. However, I'd also be VERY interested to hear VR with a Sebastianbach/Axl style front man - who would push them in a more intense direction. Obviously it wont be Axl or Baz - but if they could find the "next" guy like that....wow.

In other words, the big STP reunion didn't exactly pan out, long term, and now Scott wants back on the VR payroll. Not gonna happen.

VR reunion... yeah that's what the world was waiting for. Even with Scott people had lost all interest in VR.

VR is as dead as new GNR.

well VR are no longer tied to the "Big Machine"...who knows what could happen...if scott got his shit together they may give him another chance and try and win the fans back after the poor commercial showing of Libertad

leading up to Libertad's release VR seemed stronger than ever as a band...then the wheels fell off

Re: Scott Weiland Not Ruling Out A Velvet Revolver Reunion

well who knows what will happen with VR I really don't think they will have Scott back anytime soon,I could be wrong tho.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back to be honest, most of the auditioning or suggested singers were terrible, even VR looked nervous continuing without him.

I think VR can do better than Scott, but then again they could get somebody worse.
