#941 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » VELVET REVOLVER Lays Down '12 New Jams,' According To Bassist MCKAGAN » 898 weeks ago
I hate when it's vague like that, who knows what "jams" are. It could be working on written songs, or they could have just rolled tape while they fucked around. It's cool to know they're working on something though.
I'm looking forward to more Loaded stuff, but I was hoping Taz woulda been drumming on it.
#942 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » Who benefits more from the split? » 898 weeks ago
The STP guys. For exactly what Neemo said, they're able to take the publicity of the split and run with it right away.
In the long run, no matter how popular anything else the rest of the guys do, they'll always be "former GNR members", Scott immediately goes back to STP(which is what he would always be known for), so the asterisk isn't there when talking about him anymore.
#943 Re: Guns N' Roses » Robin back in NIN. Temp or not is the question? » 899 weeks ago
in all seriousness though this was bound to happen...people wanna get on with their lives and do stuff, i was surpised when he went back the first time,,,though to me this says temporary as it says "live band"
I'm not really a NIN fan, so I don't know for sure, but I think it just says "live band" because NIN has always been just Reznor doing everything in the studio, then hiring a band to tour behind it.

I can post tons of these to prove it if you like
I've already pointed out that I'm not a fan, so I don't know what this is worth... but, Bach's Irrelevant.
I don't know that that is as bad as it sounds though. Very few bands were able to come out of the 80's with any sort of relevance intact (GnR, Metallica, U2, Ozzy solo stuff). There are bands that were/are a lot more successful than Skid Row who are irrelevant too (Poison, Def Leppard, etc). The fact that Bach's able to keep a carreer is admirable, but that doesn't make him relevant.

I can't see how anyone would suggest Baz is the man for the job considering they need a songwriter. Songwriting is not the man's strong point.
For the record, I wasn't comparing Baz to Cherone... I was merely comparing the situation to Van Halen and what the band could turn into with him as the singer. The songs would be weaker and irrelevant in today's music scene. Take Baz's solo album for instance. It had no impact at all in the music industry last year. He's publicly viewed as a washed up 80s singer. At least Scott was relevant to a more modern audience. I brought Chris Robinson into the mix because they need someone with a more rock sound than Weiland, but less hair metal than Baz. Someone else I'd like them to consider is Eric Dover. Chris Cornell would be an interesting addition too. Josh Todd (until that crappy song came out this year) would be relevant.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Baz's work in Skid Row and respect him as a singer. But to me he's way too irrelevant in today's music scene. The guys in VR at least survived the 80s and aren't writing the same songs they did way back then. Baz would just hold them back and turn them into a novelty act.
I almost edited the post you quoted and added your first two sentences word for word.
I probably wouldn't have been as nice about it though, since I'm not a fan of his, so I didn't.
Completely unrelated, I actually liked the VH album with Cherone, it's biggest problen was it was Van Halen trying to do something they'd never done before, and no one wanted to hear that.
#946 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » On the search for a new frontman: » 899 weeks ago
Unless the existing VR guys are willing to work harder on writing good material and set a higher standard for themselves than last time, I don't see a major change to the end result. Perhaps whichever vocalist they select can inject something into the songwriting department, although unless that vocalist is someone like Izzy Stradlin with his songwriting abilities I seriouslydoubt it. Particularly if they go for a no name person then they will probably be unlikely to stand up and tell the rest of the band that the material is shit and needs more work.
I actually enjoyed Libertad more than most people seemed to, but I completely agree with this.
When a guy like Rick Rubin tells you that you need to put more into your songwriting you HAVE to listen to him, and not be afraid to do the work. They will especially need to do that now.
#947 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » On the search for a new frontman: » 899 weeks ago
The more I think about it, it kind of unbelievable to me that in this day and age they were working with someone and we didn't hear anything about it.
I don't mean that as I think it's bullshit or anything, I just mean, especially with the amount of publicity already around STP getting back together, that nothing got out to the public that the rest of the guys were working with someone else... And I actually think the fact that it didn't get out is kinda cool.
#948 Re: Dust N' Bones & Cyborg Slunks » On the search for a new frontman: » 899 weeks ago
I don't personally agree with the "Bach is the best for the job" part, but to each their own I guess. (I mentioned Shooter in the other thread and a lot of people would hate that)
I am really intrigued by the "We actually worked with a guy, I won't mention his name, before we left to go to the UK and there just wasn't enough to break him in" part though.
That suggests that they all knew this was coming, it just got announced differently than planned, or something.

For those who want to do a comparison:
Josh Todd (Buckcherry) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zu3Iqpnj … re=related
Kelly Shaefer (Neurotica) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6t4vZCnS … re=related
Sebastian Bach was next http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3JsVik3Shg
Pat Briggs (Psychotica) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amQDDq7dUVA
A. Jay Popoff (Lit) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJ0zlYLtwHs
Courtney Love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0FeMch9JPw
Travis Meeks (Days of the New) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8SnueCf4JaY
Todd Kerns (The Age of Electric, Static In Stereo)

Shooter Jennings http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ts2TjN6uatc
Mike Patton (Faith No More) declined

Butch Walker (Marvelous 3) declined

Mike Matijevic (Steelheart) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F6FMQLke0QMy personal suggestion would be (call me crazy) Pink: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe … emID=92338
I'm a big Shooter Jennings fan, I'd love to see what the writing combo of these guys and him would come up with. I don't know if it would fly with most of the public though.
If you don't know who he is, don't judge him by that cover of Walk Of Life though, I think it's aweful.
If he's up for judgement, I'd rather see it be from a song I dig, whether anyone else does or not, it just makes me feel better.

Thanks man.
By the way, I never said anything after I went to see the show a couple weeks ago.
The guy has some pipes. He sounded good on the Shannon songs but he has a bit of a rasp to his voice that Shannon didn't that also set him apart, so he didn't sound like he was trying too hard to be Shannon. That was the biggest worry I had going in.
The show was great(given, sounding good at a live show and sounding good on the songs you've written are two completely different things). All that said, before seeing the show I wasn't sure whether or not I'd buy the album, now I'll be picking it up when it comes out for sure.
Really my only complaint is that I really think they realize that a lot of the people coming to their shows at this point are big jam-band fans so they think they need to jam for a while a couple times... and instead of seeming like a good jam, it just seemed to drag on. Given, maybe if I was stoned it wouldn't have mattered as much though.
